Description:

  • summary: The wave data on the Mediterranean coast are taken from the ANEMOC database (Atlas Numérique d'États de Mer Océaniques et Côtiers) which has been evaluated from numerical calculation (hindcast) for the period 01/01/1979-31/12/2008. The maps provide the most relevant wave parameters for the whole year and the four seasons from the shore to 50 km offshore. If the map title mentions a specific season (Spring (March to May), Summer (June to August), Fall (September to November) or Winter (December to January)) then the data are season-averaged. Otherwise, the averaging has been performed over the 30 years of the time series.
  • history: The wave dataset is taken from the ANEMOC database, which has been built by EDF R&D LNHE by hindcasting wave conditions over a period of 30 years, between 1979 and 2008. The simulations of wave conditions are carried out with the third-generation spectral wave modelling software TOMAWAC (Benoit et al. 1996) and are driven by wind fields from the ERA-40 meteorological reanalysis (Uppala et al. 2005) produced by the European Centre for Medium-range Weather Forecast (ECMWF).
