Description:

  • summary: The power data include wind power and wave power computation conducted with the ANEMOC wave and ERA-40 wind datasets respectively. The wind power and wave power technologies have been chosen to be representative of technologies relevant for the Mediterranean conditions (e.g. floating devices for the WEC).
  • history: The wind turbine technologies have been chosen so that they cover different technologies in use in an offshore context. They encompass hub heights ranging from 80 to 110 meters and nominal capacity between 2 and 6 MW. For this purpose the 10 meter wind speed has been extrapolated to hub height assuming a neutral wind profile. The Charnock model has been used to evaluate the roughness length (Charnock 1955). The power has then been estimated with the help of the power curves available from the manufacturer. Similarly, the wave energy converter technologies have been chosen to include the most pertinent ones for the Mediterranean see. Three floating devices with available power matrices have been considered for building this dataset. The power matrices calculated by Babarit et al. for three floating technologies have been used: the floating oscillating water column (F-OWC), the floating two-body heaving converter (2HB), and the floating three-body oscillating flap device (3OF).
